Digital (C)age

Description

“Digital (C)age” explores how in our digital age, people hide behind virtual personas when on computers. These masks conceal the actual sentiments of the user, and the results are that they either convey messages that are exaggerations or understatements of the real reactions. This may prove useful to some, but it can also lead to violent outcomes. If unmonitored, these masks could slowly grow onto us, and it’s possible to lose our “real selves” to it. The consequences are very much real, and instead of being the masters of our masks, we become enslaved and caged by it.

I finished this piece last May 2012 for a competition, and it's one of my largest drawings to date (A3 original size.) It was my first time drawing something of this scale and of this style, so it was quite an ambitious drawing concept for a competition entry, but I'm happy with how it turned out anyway. I might re-draw this someday.

//Edit:
This piece has been featured in I Am An Artist Project's ALMPT January 2013 Issue! I'm so happy and flattered (and quite embarrassed, actually) that this piece was also used as the cover for their maiden issue~ You can take a look here: issuu.com/iamanartistproject/docs/almpt01 It's such an honor to be listed alongside talented artists!! :)
